Tip from Holland,

together with Dr. Pulley's 15 gram install a clutch spring +20% / 800 rpm.
That will make the setup complete and nobody in class 400cc beat Xc

Today I Installed Dr. Pulley's 15 gram sliders

Acceleration goes up again... Xciting is now really a sprint beast aka traffic-light racer.
Max ref's with 15 gram are lower again (somewhere in between 7000 and 7250 rpm) top speed is about same as with 16 gram
(maybe on top I loose 1 or 2 kilometer)
Max ref restrictions for a Xciting 400 is about 8250 rpm ( I have reached with 17 gram OEM rollers 7800 rpm.)
But with use of the Dr. Pulley 15 gram sliders I can't get it higher then +/- 7250 rpm.
So there's work to do because this engine got much more potential.

Suggestions to wake up this beast are welcome.

Install review Dr. Pulley's 16 gram sliders

Install review Dr. Pulley's 16 gram sliders.

Standard weight OEM rollers from Xciting = +/- 17 gram.


Dr. Pulley Xciting 400i replace sliders type: 25/20 (17/16/15/14) gram

6% from OEM weight rollers = +/- 16 gram
10% from OEM weight rollers = +/- 15,3 gram
15% from OEM weight rollers = +/- 14,5 gram (used mainly in mountain country)


Before I start to review my Dr. Pee sliders I first would like to show you 2 pictures,
containing 1 good picture & 1 ugly picture.

Winter flowers @ Kenau-park Haarlem, 2 March 2014, 1600hours.


After just finishing my run-in session (1000km.) the drive pulley doesn't look good,
there is some grease into each slide, and each slide contain raw spots



Operation drive pulley:


Removed belt case plastic cover


Removed belt case cover ...oh terrible, it wasn't easy to remove the gasket without damaging (very sticky)










(Important for this type drive pulley) Before dissemble: Mark the ramp plate!!
So later on during assembling each of the 3 "fence-pin's" is onto the same pin location.


Once more a pic. from the dirty drive pulley. This is not okay for brand new motorcycle




Cleaned and polished the raw spots from inner drive pulley.


Installed Dr. Pee's 16 grammes


De-greased the drive pulley, and used 'Loctite blue' onto drive pulley nut.
(drive pulley nut torque: +/- 77,5 / 85,3 Newton-meter


Going outside for first impression.



First impression is insanely good, with over the full range very clear noticeably better accelerations.
Standard weight OEM rollers full throttle is about +/- 8200rpm.
Dr. Pulley 16 gram sliders full throttle is about +/- 7300rpm.
With use of Dr. Pulley sliders the average rev's over the whole speed range is at least about +/-500 rpm. lower then with use of standard weight OEM rollers.
On maximum top-speed you loose about +/- 2 or 3 kilometers per hour, but over the whole speed range you got really much higher and better accelerations.

Lower rev's will be also lower FC and also better and longer lasting for our engine.
Please don't ask me for new FC, other questions are welcome.

Besides:
Next step is checking/testing my 15 gram Dr. Pulley's (I will test them in a couple of weeks)

My advise:
Once again Dr. Pulley's are the bomb, so please Xciting 400i pilots order a.s.a.p. to feel and compare the difference.

Still doesn't install Dr. Pulley diamonds yet, but like I noticed in earlier message, I will choose for 15 or 16 grams.

Later on after I've tested both I will ad REV's and FC. onto this topic... but I need more time.


Kinderdijk is more into South direction while pic's are made in North Holland,
I started shooting pic's @ Zaanse Schans
If you ever need the Garmin file just let me know.

Good to know that you @ HIT252001 to the shop, that mean I will order from you!
But not right now.... coz at this moment I spend already much money on several mod's etc., (see pic's below),
so next two months I have to keep my hand on my wallet :evil:
I still also not finishing my run-in session (1000km)
I'm gonna use my run-in as referential, and then next I'm going to @ the 15 gram sliders to see/feel the difference.

Normally I'm ordering my Dr. Pulley sliders from your shop but this time I had the Xciting Dr. Pulley sliders
way before you @ them to your shop, and straight from Taiwan... sorry for that :huh:

Hi everybody :P

I am happy to inform you all about the fact that a couple of weeks a go
"Dr. Pulley" released the new Xciting 400 'Hit-Clutch 252001'





Next week I'm gonna pick up my brand new Yellow Xciting 400i ABS.
After the run-in has done, I'm going to assemble the 15 gram Dr. P. sliders, and next stage I'm also gonna test the 16 gram sliders.








Happy CNY to all Dr. Pulley fans all over the world and especially in Asia :thumbsup:

Hello all,

meanwhile I've noticed that Dirk added 16 & 17 gram Dr. Pulley's for Kymco Xciting 400 onto the webshop.

Thats good to see, I only wonder why I didn't found 15 gram onto webshop?

Something else:
I guess? that the HiT High performance clutch HiT304869
will fit perfectly
onto the 160mm bell from the Kymco Xciting 400i?
Edit: 'HiT 252001' I didn't seen in the webshop, but maybe that will be the next Xciting 400i HIT

Again something else:
I am a bit surprised that yet German Kymco distributor MSA didn't import the Xciting 400i,is that info correct and why?

Good morning Derek,

Yeah to be honust I am also not a fan of mixing 2 sets of rollers, but it's a luxury possibility for short "try-out".
I agree that if a final setup is in between 2 different weights, you better use a 'Dremel' to remove some weight.

My conclusion:
Because the standard rollers are almost 17gramm, I put my money in this case on 15 grams....
it will be just a matter of time before I knew the answer.
And in the meantime I'll have to wait untill Dirk Diestel @ the 25x20 sliding pieces to the shop.

Die SR Gleitgewichte zu mischen ist nicht gut. Du riskierst damit nur ein Kippen der Rollen. Außerdem wird der Verschleiß ungleichmäßig. Da alle Gewichte nicht genau aufeinander synchronisiert bzw. ausgewogen sind, besteht auch die Möglichkeit der Unwucht. Was soll das also bringen? Verwende einfach 6 x 16 Gramm und Teste. Erleichtern mit Dremel und Feinwaage auf 15,5 Gramm kannst du hinterher immer noch.

Standard Xciting 400i roller size and weight is 25X20 & almost 17 gram

I guess 15/16 gram Dr. Pulley's will be fine.

So based on my Dr. Pulley experience -/+ 15 and max. 16 grams can do the job!

Probably a mixed set 3x15 and 3X16 = 15,5 gram is also a good try-out.

That Taiwanese dude from the url started with 14 grams, and that's to light!

To me all your tips are very welcome for this type of stift vario.
I own the tools to open-up and keeping the vario clean, so that's a good start.
Also good advise from you to "markier the stellung from the gegendruckplatte" before disassembling this type of vario.
First I thought that it was a revolutionary system.... but meanwhile I understand from you
that you already have seeing it onto DT 125cc.
Haha... Anyway good that these guys in Singapore didn't complain yet about this issue onto the 400i.
And I also didn't found problems yet on Taiwanese for likea 'Jorsindo'

Beim Downtown 125 neigen die Stiftführungen der Gegendruckplatte zum Verkanten und klemmen, zum Einen durch Verwindung, zum Anderen durch schnelle Verschmutzung. Das ist dann Staubabrieb vom Riemen und sonstiger Schmutz. Die Stiftführungen klemmen und die Gegendruckplatte hängt. Dadurch können die Pulleys kippen und das Schaltverhalten der Vario wird gestört. Deshalb sollte man die Stifte und die Führungsbohrungen regelmäßig säubern. Bei gut funktionierender Vario sollte die Stellung der Gegendruckplatte vor dem Zerlegen und Reinigen markiert werden. Wird die Gegendruckplatte in einer versetzten bzw. verdrehten Stellung montiert, können die Stifte nach der Montage klemmen. Das wird dann beim Xciting 400i nach einiger zeit sicher nicht anders sein.

Hey Derek,

I owned a DownTown 300 before my self and never have seen this "Stiftvario" before.... to me it seems that the Xciting 400i is the first with this vario, but now I understand that you've seen it before onto the DT 125?
And what kinda programmed problems do you talk about, is this type of vario less stabil or something?
I know a view Asian guys driving this 400cc bike in Singapore and so far they didn't complain about the stift system.
